This is actually a good generalist resource for parents taking on new placements but does nothing for adopted children more than a year or two past placement. What do you do for the tweener angry at their adoption ten years prior? Good transition, bad - there's nothing. Good for starting out, but nothing new for APs with more than 10 hours of training.
This book is nothing short of extraordinary! Our family welcomed a four year old adopted Granddaughter a couple of years ago and the challenges were enormous.
This book has the uncanny ability to predict the early challenges and to give soundly worked answers to them. This truly should be a text book for the professionals who handle the adoption process. How many tears could have been avoided if only we had had access to the knowledge and experience which poured from it's pages.
This is my first ever book review but, if I never write another, I will be content if I have persuaded but one couple to heed the brilliant candour and wisdom that is contained in this outstanding book.
