It Wasn't My Choice Sexuality is Destined by Fate not Decision Julie Roberts 9780692609279 Books Reviews

  • Although many details were different, I could totally relate to Ms. Robert's initial confusion and the associated coming out process. It was very similar to mine and those of friends. She also Included humor and wit as she did with her first two books. The painful 'first love' experience and the desire to make it work regardless of compatibility reminded me of my experience too. This story has a nice happy ending as Ms. Roberts formed her own group and emerged happy and healthy. Very instructive for LGBT family and friends as well as those contemplating coming out or even newly out. I hope that Ms. Roberts produces a sequel as her insights on making lesbian long term relationships work would be instructive as well.
  • A refreshingly honest account of Ms. Roberts' journey to understanding and accepting her homosexuality. Written in an easy to read, conversational tone, Roberts explains the personal battle that began in her early childhood the confusion, denial, the eventual grieving and prayer for release from the struggle, and finally the acceptance and accompanying freedom of coming out to her family and community. This is a book that those who are wondering how to accept an LGBT family member or friend need to read.
  • I highly recommend this book to anyone that has a gay friend or family member. It is a great insight into what some go through in the process of coming out and accepting who they were meant to be.
  • If you are trying to come to terms or understand your own sexuality, or of someone you love, this is a GREAT book to read. Although my situation is different, I could relate to Julie's story and found many parallels. I wish I had read this years ago as it could have saved me years of struggle and maybe brought me to self-acceptance sooner. It is a quick read, with humor and brings greater insight into the self-acceptance process that occurs for some of us -- which then may provide greater understanding and compassion from others. Well done Ms. Roberts, thank you!
